Each October, thousands of spectators at Birmingham’s NEC are thrilled by top-class entertainment, awesome displays, unbeatable shopping and world-class equestrian competition as Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) settles in for five jam-packed days.
Over the summer months thousands of competitors go head-to-head to clinch their golden ticket to compete at “The World’s Most Famous Horse Show”. Join in the cheers of support during the final showdown of the best in Britain from Wednesday 9 – Sunday 13 October.
Every day national titles are secured and from Thursday 10 October, our top show jumpers take on rivals from around the globe as the international competition gets underway.
The elegance of showing, power of show jumping, speed of Osborne Refrigerators Double Harness Scurry Racing and daring games of the Virbac/3dWorming.co.uk Pony Club Mounted Games is complemented this year with a spectacular new event. During Wednesday’s performance, dual Olympic gold medallist Charlotte Dujardin will continue the magic of London 2012 in the Mount St John Dressage Future Elite Championship, contesting the title on one of her top young horses.
Alongside the tense competition, entertaining the audience every day at this year’s show is The Musical Drive of the King’s Troop, Royal Horse Artillery, presented by Home Farm Hothorpe and the Mulbrooke Stud. The longed for return to the Show of this exciting display will culminatewith a booming gun salute, leaving the audience wanting more. Visitors won’t want to miss the hilarious UK debut of Luma the Lion, the small pony with a mighty personality – ingeniously disguised as a big cat.
If you’re craving some closer equine contact, you’ll be able to meet the horses in the Parelli Interactive Savvy Area. This is housed within the world-famous HOYS Retail Village, which has 250 trade stands and is open from 9am every day to offer a shopping experience like no other.
A week of thrills and spills will be drawn to a spectacular close during Sunday’s Gala Evening performance when the Supreme Horse of the Year, Supreme Pony of the Year and Leading Show Jumper of the Year will be crowned. The Millitary Wives Choir will then provide their own rendition of well-known favourites from throughout the British Isle, while iconic actor Brian Blessed will recite the moving Ode to the Horse during a finale with a few surprises in store.
