He’s behind you! Panto season is upon us and if you are ready for a good dose of cheese then it doesn’t get any better the UK’s biggest Panto at the Hippodrome. Heading the cast as the handsome Prince is Eastenders’ John Partridge. John, who recently starred in A Chorus Line at the London Palladium, will be joined by everyone’s favourite fashion guru Gok Wan who will be making his pantomime debut in Birmingham as The Man in The Mirror.

A child tiptoes like a ballerina towards a glittering Christmas tree, the guardian of the Christmas presents. Decorated in flittering candles and sugar sprinkled candy canes, the majestic tree enchants little Clara at midnight on Christmas Eve to come and play with her beloved Nutcracker doll. But suddenly Clara finds herself whisked away into the magical world of Christmas where she meets charming toy soldiers, beautiful snow fairies and wicked giant rats.

ILLUMINATE Light Night – 25-27 October

Birmingham Hippodrome is back with another outdoor spectacle hot off the heels of Summer in Southside and 4 Squares Weekender. This time it is all about the lights with three atmospheric days and evenings of amazing interactive light artworks in the city’s Southside district. Featuring a 360degree film igloo; a light inspired live dance performance; a series of interactive street projections; and from Shanghai, the Lanterns of Terracotta Warriors Exhibition the area is set to come alive with colour.

Jack Dee – Birmingham Hippodrome, 16 & 17 November

For someone who has made his way through life as a waiter, reportedly dabbled with the idea of becoming a priest, and who has struggled with alcohol abuse and depression before achieving major success as a stand-up comedian, you’d think Jack Dee would look happy. But he doesn’t…and that’s one of the reasons why we still love him.

Wings of Desire, 16 – 19 May Victoria Square, Birmingham

International Dance Festival Birmingham is a major biennial festival produced by DanceXchange and Birmingham Hippodrome. Hosting an array of dance styles from ballet to breaks this year you can also catch dance-inspired films and even a Drum ’n’ Bass star taking centre stage. Wolverhampton’s very own Goldie will star in this outdoor adaptation of Wim Wenders’ cult 1987 Bafta-nominated film Wings of Desire.

Thriller in the City – 16th April

If you’re a fan of the late Michael Jackson or, just like everyone else at the moment, obsessing with the amount of dance programmes on TV we have a bit of a treat for you. Birmingham Hippodrome, Dancing for the Games and DanceXchange are working together to bring you Thriller in the City, a flash mob which will be taking place on Saturday the 16th April in Birmingham (we don’t know where – that is the surprise) and YOU can be involved.

Les Ballets Trockadero De Monte Carlo (The Trocks)

After sell-out performances in 2008, Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo (or The Trocks as their known by their fans and groupies) are returning to Birmingham’s Hippodrome. Where they will hit the stage with their unique spin on famous classical ballet pieces.
