The Contemporary Portrait: Self & Others – 11 JANUARY – 9 MARCH

Screen shot 2014-01-09 at 10.57.19One of our favourite artist’s work, Stephen Earl Rogers, will be appearing at Shire Hall Galleries latest exhibition on portraiture. The exhibition explores the themes of contemporary portraits asking: What is a portrait? and What is a likeness?
The contemporary artists in this exhibition explore many different ways of depicting the human form. Artists no longer feel bound by tradition and often explore different media and processes to achieve thought-provoking work. Here are works from the traditional to the innovative – painting, drawing, photography, video & sound.
What’s more the exhibition includes Area Guides very own editors Kerry & David (pictured above) who were chosen by Rogers for his 2011 project called ‘What To Do In An Emergency’. Taking his latest inspiration from a 1980’s Reader’s Digest self-help, family manual the artist asked a number of ‘creative’ individuals, partnerships and collectives to choose an emergency scenario which was then re-captured.

More details of Stephen Earl Rogers’ work is here.
