Head to Birmingham’s Southside District (Chinatown) this weekend for their Summer in Southside Festival fun. Not only will you get to see an amazing a fully animated 20 foot Iron Man, and dance from Motionhouse but you can also get involved and creative with an arts and crafts mask making workshop as part of Birmingham Hippodrome’s festival.
Hosted in the district’s Arcadian centre on Saturday 24 – Sunday 25 August, 12pm – 1pm, the free workshop will run in conjunction with Birmingham Chinese School and Overseas Chinese School and invites children of all ages to decorate lion’s faces with some cool and crafty tools.
Children decorating the masks will be invited to pose for pictures with their wild designs for the chance to be entered into a prize draw. Judged by Chinatown Lions chairman David Cox, the winning design will receive a £100 voucher to spend on books and games while two runners up will each receive a £50 voucher.
Also on Saturday 24 August, a traditional Chinese Lion dance will sweep through the Arcadian and Rosa Parkin and the Chinese Jitterbug Girls will dazzle and amaze the district by mixing together ancient Chinese magic and the Charleston. Plus, you’ll have the chance to sit back and enjoy the sunshine in a Southside summer deckchair.
