In celebration of The Royal Shakespeare Company’s 50th Birthday, artist Shane Waltener will be transforming the Swan Theatre’s Swan Room into a giant Birthday Cake!
The Sweet Celebrations exhibition will run between 9th April and 24th July. During this time visitors will be given the opportunity to help decorate the room using a combination of sugarcraft, sweets, royal icing and graffiti techniques helping to create this large-scale installation.
Speaking about the projects objective Shane said “The idea is to convert the walls of the Swan Room into a massive frieze of sugarcraft pieces, all individually decorated. I’m looking forward to seeing how the public uses traditional cake decorating methods to create their own responses to the building.”
These sessions take place on a variety of dates including Friday 15th and Saturday 26th April from 10.30am – 12.30pm and 1.30pm-3.30pm. Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd April 10.30am – 12.30pm and 1.30pm – 3.30pm. Visitors do not have to stay for the whole session and can take part for as long or as short as they like.
There will be an extra special session on the Saturday 30th April between 12pm – 4pm as part of the annual Shakespeare’s Birthday Celebrations.
