Shlomo – Mouthtronica

mac, 31 March – £15 (performance only), £18 (performance & workshop), £10 (workshop only)
You can barely move for beatboxers these days. We’ve just had Beardyman at the Institute, and now there’s the chance to catch Shlomo, the newly crowned World Loop Station Champion, at mac on the 31st. His new show Mouthtronica – one man, one mic, one mouth – promises to be an intense mix of storytelling and high-energy genre-hopping human beatboxing.

Shlomo, a classically trained percussionist and jazz drummer of Israeli, Iraqi and German descent, is an incredible solo performer, but much more besides. He’s worked with many other artists, including Bjork, Mr Scruff and Jarvis Cocker, and directs the Vocal Orchestra, an eight-strong troupe of beatboxers. In 2007 he was appointed Artist in Residence at London’s Southbank Centre, where he now curates Music Through Unconventional Means, a series of collaborative concerts with the likes of Martha Wainwright and DJ Yoda; and he runs several educational projects including the BAC Beatbox Academy, working with inner-city kids in South London.

For his appearance at mac he’ll be running the workshop at 5pm and performing at 7.30; all in a day’s work for this one-man musical phenomenon.

To book tickets call 0121 446 3232 or go to www.macarts.co.uk; for more information on what’s going on in Shlomo-world, have a look at www.shlo.co.uk. WL
