O2 Academy, 15 March – £28.50
Heralded by many as one of the classics of the 1990s, Primal Scream are taking 1991’s Screamadelica on tour. The album, which features dub rhythms, gospel singers and trippy, acid-house samples, will be played in its entirety, giving fans too young to remember its release the chance to experience it in its full glory, and those who were there the first time around the chance to relive it. The tour will also see the group performing songs from the record that have never been played live before.
Successful shows in London last November saw the Scottish group act as their own support, playing a set of their greatest hits before launching into every track on Screamadelica, rearranging the order to suit the atmosphere of the event.
The tour will coincide with the re-release of the record, remastered by the band’s own Kevin Shields. Collectors’ editions are also scheduled for release this month, containing extra CDs, DVDs and LPs celebrating the 20th anniversary of Primal Scream‘s third album. NP
