Birmingham fashion design talented scooped the top prize at this year’s FAD (Fashion Awareness Direct) competition held at the Vauxhall Fashion Scout in London.
Milly Jackson (pictured above), 24, from Solihull walked away with the top prize for her collection inspired by Yann Martel’s best selling novel ‘Life of Pi’.
Milly is currently studying at Nottingham Trent University. She presented a collection of playful dresses in brushed silk, velvet and wool, featuring reworked animal prints and illusionary details from the book’s menagerie of wild characters.
Meanwhile another Birmingham Designer, Annie Vallis, 22 (also studying at Nottingham Trent) took the second runner-up prize with her ‘Stranger Then Fiction’ menswear entry which is inspired by the magical realism of Jean Painleve’s surreal nature documentaries. Her ‘otherworldy’ nature prints were paired with modern day explorer silhouettes.
