Ladywood Health & Community Centre
11am – 4pm
Favourite jeans got an embarrassing hole in the crotch? Or maybe your jumper’s got a snag that’s just getting bigger? Fear not! Textile artist Celia Pym has arrived to help. Celia doesn’t just mend your clothing; she loves mending your clothing.Take your clothes along to the Ladywood Health & Community Centre next Tuesday, and Celia will bring to your attention the importance of repair and reuse. She’ll look at each item individually, and discuss the best way to fix it. And don’t worry if you’ve never picked up a needle and thread in your life, as Celia will take the time to teach you simple darning techniques.
Darn It! will be based in the Curious About Craft mobile exhibition vehicle, which is part of Birmingham City Council’s Arts on the Move initiative. The mobile exhibition will be travelling all over Birmingham, to deliver inspirational crafts and DIY projects to people across the city.
Making things by hand, upcycling (turning old tat into useable items), and repairing your old garments provides a cheap and unique alternative to mass-produced goods. In the current climate, it’s worth remembering that disposable fashion does not always have to be disposed of.
