Cum Clubbing

Most will remember Birmingham as being a dull, grey, concrete mass (many of the buildings that built that reputation are still prominent in the city till this day), but those who knew better would tell a different story of Birmingham’s outrageous, if not seedy, underbelly.

VIVID will be hosting an event (grown from Sleeve Notes, a project developed by artist-curator Trevor Pitt in 2009) to share all that once was of Birmingham’s underground scene of the 1970’s and 80’s, in a disco/art event hybrid ‘Cum Clubbing’ – named after the clubnight Cum Club, once held at Bradford Street’s Fantasy club.

The space will be adorned with art and films reflecting the time that once was, and you can get your groove on while you admire the pieces with DJ sets from Greg Haines (Tropical Hotdog), John Napier (Jugend Klub), Richard A. Spears (Golden Trash & Ducks Bath) and Brian Duffy (The Modified Toy Orchestra).

Keep an eye out for the infamous John Lupton (otherwise known as ‘Gay John’), a man known to be responsible for the original Cum Club and much of Birmingham’s debauchery from the time.
