Andrew Cross – The Solo

1- 25 July

An old, long forgotten staple of rock music has been reawakened by artist Andrew Cross. In working with drummer Carl Palmer, the two bring the back a raw and unhinged enjoyment of percussion in a projected film of Palmer performing a series of classic rock style drum solos.

Palmer, who made his name in the 1970s group Emerson, Lake & Palmer, breaks down the many parts of the kit; playing his own original rhythms on the individual pieces of kit before they culminate together for the final solo. These experiments in beat will be played across two large projector screens and the resulting cacophony will get your skin trembling as it is played through in surround sound.

Accompanying the film will a number of photos from Cross’ series Hats Off to Roy Harper (2008).  This collection shows the empty landscapes of the site of the once famous rock mecca that was Knebworth Festival.

The show launches tonight 1st July.
