HOME OF METAL – take up residence in Wolverhampton

Metal fans wanted! From Thursday 17th June – Saturday 19th Home Of Metal will be taking up residence in a disused shop in Wolverhampton city centre (City 10. 18 Queen Square, Wolverhampton, WV1 1TQ), inviting fans to bring along their memorabilia & stories to be photographed & recorded to contribute to the digital archive.

Home of Metal is a project aimed at creating the first digital archive of metal music, memorabilia and fans stories, to tell the story of this unique moment of Midlands’ musical heritage. Focusing on the innovators of the genre and those that continued to develop it: Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Judas Priest, Napalm Death and Godflesh.

If you’ve still got your treasured concert tickets, photographs, badges, album covers, t-shirts, demo tapes, fan letters, fanzines, flyers, lyrics, posters, press articles, set lists and promotional materials then gather them together to help build the collection online, which will inform a series of major exhibitions which are being developed for 2011.

On Saturday 19th June, renowned rock photographer Steve Gerrard will be in residence, fans are invited to have their portraits taken by him in their prized band T-shirts to feature in the Home Of Metal Exhibition.

Home of Metal is a celebration of the music that was created in the West Midlands, its legacy and influence across the world. Bringing people together to share their passion for the music by creating a digital archive, its ambitions also include the development of heritage tours and ultimately a permanent collection dedicated to telling the story of Metal and its unique birthplace.
