New Art Gallery Walsall
Gallery Square, Walsall. 01922 654400
Open: Mon-Sat and Bank Holidays 10am-5pm, Sun 11am-4pm
12 February – 18 April
To mark New Art Gallery Walsall’s double figure milestone they will be celebrating with Party! an exhibition designed both to celebrate their 10 years of achievements and the range and diversity of visual arts.
Bringing together a consciously diverse and eclectic group of works by 50 internationally renowned and emerging artists the core of the exhibition will comprise contemporary works and a careful selection of historic and modern works.
New works and commissions include David Shrigley’s new set of drawings inspired by the theme of the exhibition and Resident artist Bob and Roberta Smith’s new, party-inspired piece of work for the gallery’s Window Box. The foyer will be decorated by Lucienne Cole, ready for her community dance extravaganza in April and artist Mitra Memarzia will be turning the Artists’ Studio into The Unwanted Gift Shop – where donated gifts can be exchanged or turned into art. The Floor 1 Activity Room will be transformed into a sea of bright purple balloons by Martin Creed’s Half the Air In A Given Space installation.
You can officially join in the PARTY! when it opens on Thursday 11 February (from 6pm to 9pm) with an evening of music, celebration, artistic interventions and cake. Artist/DJ Gavin Turk will be on the decks, and Bob and Roberta Smith’s band, The Ken Ardley Playboys, will be playing live.
