The history and landscape of central England has long been a hub for diversity and frequent change that has proven difficult to fully chart, with archive footage often proving illusive and fragmented when acquired. Now however, there is an online archive where rich, previously unseen footage can be accessed all in one place. WeVee.co.uk brings together a mass archive that documents the history of central England in sublime still photography and film.
A collaborative effort developed by Birmingham production company Television Junction, digital media company Clusta and with the help of Screen West Midlands’ Digital Archive Fund, WeVee allows its users not only the chance to view archive footage from the latter half of the last decade, but also gives you the opportunity to edit the material and even put it to your own soundtrack. Researching the history of the Midlands in both stills and film has never been easier and through the editing process, the software allows you to create your own video history of the region as a whole, or just the little slice of the Midlands that you call home.
WeVee is free to use so take a look and see what gems you discover.
