To compliment the wonderful Pop Art Gallery and permanent collection at Wolverhampton Art Gallery the next installment of work comes courtesy of Jann Haworth, the artist who co-designed The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Heart Club Band album cover.
As well as winning a Grammy award in 1968 for the album cover, Haworth is also one of the few women associated with the Pop Art Movement of the 1960’s.
The exhibition will include behind the scenes photos from the Sgt. Pepper set and several of her early soft sculptures that she has restored exclusively for this exhibition.
This is the first showing of her work in the UK since 1972 and offers a rare opportunity to see Haworth’s early soft sculptures alongside more recent pieces including giant charm bracelets and corset canvases. Wolverhampton’s own still-life sculpture, Donuts, Coffee cups & Comics (1962) will be on display alongside other donut sets, for the first time since it was acquired for the Pop Art Collection in 2008.
The exhibition is running from 26 October 09 – 10 April 10.
