The Destroyers with support from Sheelanagig at mac, Birmingham

Birmingham based The Destroyers, accompanied by Sheelanagig, brought their distinctive blend of rock, folk and klezmer (everyone knows klezmer), along with many other genres, to the outdoor arena at the mac over the weekend in what was a sold out spectacle of sight and sound.

The outdoor arena at the mac, Birmingham, is one of the best-kept secrets and rare gems of the Birmingham music scene. Like an urban coliseum of irregular concrete (where seating pads are a must) the unique venue works to increase the theatricality and anticipation of any performance, not least that of two of the most charismatic bands working the folk scene today.

Six Summer Saturdays 2012 @brumhippodrome

Kicking off this weekend Six Summer Saturdays in back and, as with each passing year, seems to get better and better. The summer events surprise, shock and above all do a great job in putting smiles on the faces of unsuspecting Brummie shoppers as performers pop up in unusual places to entertain the crowds. Here’s a list of what to expect…

Wings of Desire, 16 – 19 May Victoria Square, Birmingham

International Dance Festival Birmingham is a major biennial festival produced by DanceXchange and Birmingham Hippodrome. Hosting an array of dance styles from ballet to breaks this year you can also catch dance-inspired films and even a Drum ’n’ Bass star taking centre stage. Wolverhampton’s very own Goldie will star in this outdoor adaptation of Wim Wenders’ cult 1987 Bafta-nominated film Wings of Desire.

DEATHTRIPPING feat. Lydia Lunch 19.02.12 @VIVID_

Next weekend, Vivid will be hosting DEATHTRIPPING, a two part festival of transgressive trash film and performance. The event will feature a rare live appearance from iconic No Wave beauty Lydia Lunch (PICTURED) and exclusive screenings of ultra-shocking underground films from the likes of Nick Zedd and Richard Kern, some of which have been banned in the state of New York.
